This piece was developed in close collaboration with the animator to achieve a sound as surreal as the visuals. This piece also blends elements of sound design and score, as well as flute recordings provided by Hannah McLoughlin. I recorded various foley sounds to create sound effects for the insect like creatures in the hive, as well as the living walls and environment within the hive. I wanted the whole structure to hum with a menacing sentience to create a sense of unease. The brief I was given by the animator was that close synchronization of certain foley was needed such as footsteps and the event at the end of the animation, and that synths should be used to reflect both the biological and electronic elements of the hive.
